There are two major ways to get somewhere: leave most of your options open and stumble forward or narrow your options and move forward at a good pace. While there are plenty good arguments for leaving your options open (i.e. discovery), we will save that approach for a later post.

To move forward at a good pace requires knowing where you want to go. In the realm of personal achievement, the best way to know is to develop a vision of what you want to do. Once you have that, you can work backwards developing the means to get there (that too, will be discussed in a later post).

What is your vision of where you want to go? Is it sharply in focus? Or is it cloudy?

If you are looking at your creative life three years from now, what does it look like?

Once you have a clear vision, you need to capture it in some way so that you can look at it on a regular basis. Write it down, draw it, sculpt it, list it, etc. Some how, give it form. Know this: You will forget your vision. Maybe today, maybe tomorrow but you will forget your vision unless….

1. you capture it and put it down and, 2. you look at your vision very, very frequently, at least every other day.

Keep your vision sharp and before your eyes.

What will your creative life look like three years from today?

  1. This may seem obvious, but you will also want to keep your ACTUAL vision sharp! Get frequent eye checkups. Working on graphic design on computers, painting small details, putting in long hours can take a toll on vision. You may be looking at details through a blur and it will show up in your end product! So get your vision checked. 🙂
